Services

Using a combination of aural tuning techniques and state-of-the-art electronic tuning technology, I ensure the necessary corrections to your instrument to leave it sounding in tune with itself and the surrounding space. Some instruments may require a pitch raise, if it has been a long time between tunings. Manufacturers recommend tuning your piano twice a year, optimally in the spring and fall. If your piano only gets tuned once a year, it’s recommended it be around the same time each year.

Tuning: Standard tuning - $130
Pitch Raise - $30 (if Necessary)

Regulation: $35/hour

A piano’s action is made up of thousands of moving parts. Making sure these parts are in proper working order is essential to keeping the instrument playable and the feeling of playing it enjoyable. That is where regulation comes in. If you are unhappy with how your piano is playing, ask about regulation.

Repairs/Refurbishment: pricing varies

Parts inside the piano get worn down over time, or sometimes completely break. Luckily, I can repair those parts and bring your piano back to top condition. If one or two small things pop-up during a tuning or regulation session, I will likely fix/replace them, free of charge. But if the overall condition of parts is very poor, I will have a discussion with you about possible repairs that could benefit your instrument. Likewise, if you own an instrument that is in need of extensive repair or refurbishment, please reach out and we can assess what can be done to restore your instrument to working order.

About

Originally from Prescott, WI, I’ve enjoyed playing the piano for over 20 years of my life, starting with classical lessons in the 3rd grade and continuing through high school. I studied engineering sciences at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, and worked in the mechanical and industrial engineering sectors for 5 years in the Des Moines area. Though I was naturally inclined towards that line of work, I found that a certain level of passion was missing. That’s when I turned to my love of music and the piano.

I had begun to think about picking up some piano tuning tools and teaching myself how to tune, and do it as a side gig. After looking into it further, I realized I wanted to make it my full-time professional career. I quickly became a certified piano technician, earning my diploma from the Piano Technician Academy in piano tuning and repair. I also became a member of the Piano Technicians Guild and stay up to date with news and education, improving my skills, through involvement in my local chapter.

I’ve found that my skills and interests in both music and engineering have led to an exciting combination in piano tuning and technology. I am happy and proud to serve the central Iowa area piano community.
